Our HistoryThe concept of a marketing referral group comprising Australia's leading independent hotels and resorts was first proposed in late 1986 and officially launched by the Australian Minister of Sport, Recreation and Tourism in June 1987. Ten hotels and resorts became the nucleus of what was then Select Hotels & Resorts International. In 1996 Select merged with Small Luxury Hotels of the World to provide a global approach to its representation business. Due to the increasing demand by owners of properties in Australia, New Zealand and the Asian Pacific region, a decision was made in 2003 to reform Select into a regional, specialist, marketing group. A change in ownership of Select occurred in 2007 and in 2008/9 the two owners restructured the business and expanded their global services to include both marketing representation and management of hotels and resorts within the region. The managing director, Mr Tony Balch, has over 30 years of hotel, development, real estate and strata titling experience. The aim for Select is to become one of the most prominent hotel marketing and management companies in the Asian Pacific region. This vision is being recognized as growth in membership continues and as managed properties such as Select Braemar Lodge and Spa - Hamner Springs, New Zealand; Select Burnham Beeches - the Dandenongs, Australia (opening to be advised); and others in Thailand, China, New Zealand and Australia (soon to be announced). These form the pathway for the expanded Select product offering. |
